Heartland FFA Leads Out Loud

FFA Float from Henderson Community Days with the Officer team

The Heartland FFA Chapter is off to a busy start this school year.  There have been numerous activities that have kept the Heartland FFA Chapter busy.
The summer was a busy one with FFA Officers, Brittany Ratzlaff, Andrea Boardman, Taylor Janzen, Carlin Epp, Sara Newton, Kara Buller and Abby Regier,  attending a retreat to build their teamwork and communication skills.  A float, dunk tank and dodge ball tournament, at Henderson Community Days, also kept the officers on their feet during the summer.  Heartland also exhibited numerous crop, metal and woods projects at the York County Fair and the Nebraska State Fair.  Many members received ribbons and trophies for the work on their projects.  State Fair Trophy winners were, Abigail Bechtel, Brandon Friesen, Megan Friesen and Morgan Tracy.
The school year began fast with FFA Officers holding their annual Safety Day in the Ag Shop in late September, where 3rd - 6th graders were invited to learn about bike safety, ATV safety and poison control.  Students also created safety kits for themselves.  District land was held in early October.  Heartland had 23 members compete with Rick Siebert, Cody Brown and Darrell Traudt receiving the highest ribbons (blues) for the chapter.
Following District Land Judging, Freshman FFA members worked as gleaners and timers for contestants at the Nebraska State Corn Picking Contest, held in York, Nebraska.  Members helping were Sam Boardman, Emily Ott, Maelyn Huebert, Deit Driewer, Bianca Kujala, Daniel Quiring and Stephanie Stamp.  Additionally, eight Freshman FFA members were selected by the Nebraska FFA Foundation to receive a sponsored FFA Jacket and FFA Tie/Scarf.  Freshman selected were Bianca Kujala, Maelyn Huebert, Stephanie Stamp, Mattison Hiebner, Justin Foster, Brent Regier, Aaron Jensen and Daniel Quiring.
Heartland also attended the National FFA Convention.  At the convention members got the opportunity to connect with FFA members across the nation as well as attend sessions and the career show.  Members attending were; Andrea Boardman, Carlie Weisheit, Morgan Tracy, Connor Hiebner, Darrell Traudt, Brian Barr and Brandon Friesen.  The Heartland FFA Chapter also had five American Degree Recipients; Karla Buller, Trenten Friesen, Michelle Newton, Tony Squire and Kyle Zierott.
Recently, the chapter welcomed 16 new members into active membership by awarding them the Greenhand Degree.  To help celebrate the Greenhand Degree Ceremony, members were treated to a hamburger feed.  New members receiving the Greenhand Degree were, Sam Boardman, Deit Driewer, Justin Foster, Matt Hiebner, Mattison Hiebner, Maelyn Huebert, Aaron Jensen, Ashton Kroeker, Bianca Kujala, Emily Ott, Daniel Quiring, Brent Regier, Stephanie Stamp, Nikki Chacon, Leslie Borroyo and Alex Ruybalid.
Currently, the Heartland FFA Chapter has been working on their District Leadership Skills Events, which will be held on December 9th in Seward, Nebraska.  Members have also been applying for the State FFA Choir.  They are also looking forward to the Christmas Party FFA Meeting.
The Heartland FFA Chapter is off to a fast and active start to the school year.  Members look forward to participating in other upcoming FFA events during the rest of the school year and “leading out loud.”
