Holdrege Fall FFA Activities
The Holdrege FFA Chapter has had a busy fall with several opportunities for members to participated in a variety of activities. Late October ended with National FFA Convention and the theme of; Lead Out Loud - Seven chapter members attended the 82nd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis IN, October 20nd-25th. The Holdrege FFA Chapter received its second consecutive National Chapter Awards Program 3 Start Chapter Rating during the convention. This placed the Holdrege Chapter in the Top 220 chapters in the nation with this ranking. The Holdrege FFA Chapter was also recognized as a National Models of Innovation Chapter. The FFA Chapter was recognized as one of the Top 10 Schools in the area of Chapter Development Activities. Chapter members Ashley Frost and Michaela Gray presented before a panel of judges and the chapter was recognized on the national stage with the other nine chapters. The seven members attended several convention sessions featuring speakers Mike Rowe (Discovery’s Dirty Jobs TV show) and listened to the retiring addresses of National FFA Secretary, Nessie Early. They also participated in leadership workshops and the National Talent Show, Toby Keith Concert and toured the Tractor Supply Distribution Center. Members who attended National Convention were Michael Anderson, Quin Becker, Ashley Frost, Michaela Gray, Doug Smith, Alec Frisell and Nick Anderson
District Livestock Evaluation – this year’s livestock judging contest was held at the Adams County Fair Grounds on November 11th. Holdrege had twenty-six students competing in the contest this year with five individuals bringing home ribbons. In the Senior division Lincoln Pearson placed 17th overall out of 104 competitors and earned a blue ribbon. Juniors Clayton Nelson and Quin Becker placed 43rd and 54th overall and brought home red and white ribbons. In the junior division freshman Kacey McKown earned a red ribbon by placing 63 out of 221 competitors while Alex Hamling brought home a white ribbon by placing 110th overall.
The first week of December will see the FFA Chapter delivering Fruit Sales Products that were ordered in November. Delivery of products is expected to start on December 8th and be completed by December 11th. Any customers who ordered products should be getting contacted by FFA members that week to set-up delivery of products. Upcoming activities for January will include State Degree and Proficiency Award Applications, Leadership Night and Leadership Skills Events.
