Superior FFA Conducts Greenhand Ceremonies
The Superior FFA Chapter conducted their annual Greenhand Ceremonies in the Superior High School Commons Area on November 23. Twenty freshman Agriculture Education I students were accepted into FFA membership. Lacey Ward, president, presided over the meeting with members and parents present.
Receiving the degree were Kendra Baker, Nicholas Baker, Taryn Betka, Holly Bower, Gavin Caldwell, Sara Coleman, Samantha Dalton, Brianna Dessel, Leonnard Imler, Tanner Keeling, Sidney Price, Howard Reed, Lauren Rempe, Daniel Richardson, Hunter Richardson, Trent Richardson, Samantha Shaw, Casey Shipman, Nathan Wilt, and Brody Wulf.
The Greenhand Degree is the first level of FFA membership. An agriculture education student must submit a written application, receive a majority vote of the current membership, have plans for a Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) program, have a background knowledge in the FFA Greenhand pin, a membership card and sign.
The chapter conducted a free well water nitrate testing throughout the evening and several of the tests were found to be over the 10 ppm safe level. Seven of the freshman presented a parliamentary procedure mock meeting to the audience. Later, ribbons were awarded from the recent district livestock judging contest. During the meeting, Tyler Strobl reported on the 2nd annual pie baking contest which will be held December 18th in the cafeteria, the raised money will be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital to help with juvenile diabetes. Melissa Guilkey reported on National FFA week, which was held in Indianapolis where ten members participated.
