Nebraska feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 2.4 million cattle on feed on December 1, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Nebraska Field Office. This inventory was up 1 percent from last year.
Placements during November totaled 400,000 head, down 9 percent from 2008. Fed cattle marketings for the month of November totaled 380,000 head, up 7 percent from last year and equal to 2006 for the most November marketings since the data series began in 1994. Other disappearance during November 2009 totaled 10,000 head, compared with 15,000 head in 2008.
