Nebraska 2010 Winter Wheat Seedings Down From Last Year

Nebraska's winter wheat seedings for the 2010 crop are expected to total 1.50 million acres, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Nebraska Field Office. This acreage level is down 12 percent or 200,000 acres from last year and the smallest winter wheat planted acreage since records began in 1919.

Subsoil moisture supplies were mostly adequate as the planting period began and changed little throughout the planting season. Cool growing conditions since planting have left the crop condition rated 65 percent good and excellent, down from 77 percent good and excellent last year.
