Furnas County Livestock Association’s Annual Banquet

Furnas County’s Livestock Association is well known for supplying their membership with excellent entertainment when they meet for their annual banquet. This year the event is scheduled for Saturday, February 27 at the Cambridge High School Gymnasium beginning at 6:30 p.m.

This year’s banquet entertainment is no exception.

The Ringling 5 (there may actually be 7) – they aren’t very good at counting but the group is somewhere between 5 and 7. None of them are from Ringling, but they like the town. Some of their folks (that they're willing to admit to) came from Ringling country (somewhere up in Montana) and, there used to be a circus there. They've always liked Ringling because one time they sang there and no one kicked them out. The fact there's more of them than there are folks in Ringling had nothing to do with it.

These boys: Obie, Larry, Ken, Don, Les, Ron, and Chuck, have a reputation for providing fine Country Western music and comedy entertainment. There's a nostalgic movement to romanticize the West and ranching life - rugged men, strong women, family values. Well, the Ringling 5 has just one thing to say, "Bull." They sing of today's West - tennis shoe clad men, women who had potential before they got married, and financial credit limits.

Today's cowboy is mounted on a 250cc Japanese quarterhorse, riding the ridge, looking for the cattle that got out when the bird watchers and berry pickers ran their Land Rover over the electric fence.  The Ringling 5 offer a slice of the 1990's West. Not a glossed-over nostalgic picture of yesterday, but a slice of reality from today.

You won’t want to miss this year’s banquet and the “Ringling 5.” Purchase your tickets now from any member of the Furnas County Livestock Association directors: Chuck Eubanks, Cambridge – President; David Becker, Beaver City – Vice President; Jason Houghtelling, Cambridge – Treasurer; Bruce Blickenstaff, Wilsonville; Mike Huxoll, Hendley; Bart Deterding, Cambridge; or Bill Weaver, Beaver City.
