BEAN MARKET SUMMARY
BEANS
Dry Edible Bean market activity continues to be very slow. However,
limited activity was noted at mostly steady dealer levels on a few classes.
Warehouse movement remains limited on commercial business. Growers continue
to be unwilling to sell at current levels as they hope prices will increase
after the first of the year. All prices quoted are quoted on very limited
trading. Next published report will be January 6, 2009. PINTOS not
established in most regions with ND steady to 1.00 lower at the dealer level
and grower levels mostly steady. GREAT NORTHERNS were not established at
either the dealer or grower level. SMALL WHITES were not established at
either the dealer or grower level. LIGHT RED KIDNEYS mostly steady at the
dealer levels, no recent comparison in CO/NE; grower levels were not
established. DARK RED KIDNEYS were not established at either the dealer or
grower level. PINKS were not established at the dealer; the grower level was
steady. SMALL REDS dealer levels not established; grower levels were steady,
40.00 in ID, 43.00 in WA. BLACK BEANS dealer levels in MI 2.00 lower, ND
steady; grower level was not established. CRANBERRY BEANS were not
established at either the dealer or grower level. PEA BEANS were not
established at either the dealer or grower level. GARBANZOS were not
established at either the dealer or grower level.
PEAS AND LENTILS MARKET SUMMARY
DEALER MARKET: Trading activity was slow. Majority of the classes are
not established due to very limited reporting as majority of the movement is
previous contracted product or to fill government orders. However, very
limited trading on Green Peas at mostly steady to firm prices was noted. In
addition, very limited trading was seen on Pardina lentils with no recent
comparison.
GROWER MARKET: Market activity slow. Grower levels on Green Peas
mostly steady, with a slight weakness prevailing on yellow pea levels.
Pardina lentils no recent test to compare to, all other varieties still
trying to find an established trading level.
CALIFORNIA BEAN MARKET SUMMARY
DEALER MARKET: Trading activity was very slow. Demand very light.
Baby Limas, Blackeyes, and Garbanzos were not established. Large Limas
were mostly steady in limited trading.
GROWER MARKET: Trading activity was very slow. Demand mostly light
to moderate. Limited grower activity. Large Limas and Blackeyes were
steady. Baby Limas and Garbanzos were not established. Coastal Areas
canning quality Large Limas steady.
