Cattle Auction Report for 12/30/2008
Receipts: 801 2 Weeks Ago: 400 Year Ago: 511
Compared to the light feeder test two weeks ago, steers sold 3.00-6.00 higher
and heifers steady to 2.00 higher. Slaughter cows 6.00-9.00 higher. This week?s
offering included mostly small and midsized lots for buyers to sort through but
also included a string of 117 head of moderately fleshy steers weighing nearly
700 lbs. Buyers were more aggressive in an effort to fill loads with what
relatively few cattle are currently available due to the fact that most auction
barns have been closed at least one week, some for two weeks, during the holiday
season. The slaughter cow market was also boosted by the seasonally light
supply. Supply and demand moderate. Cows and bulls accounted for 16 percent of
the total offering. The feeder supply consisted of 63 percent steers and bulls
and 37 percent heifers; near 51 percent of all the feeders weighed over 600 lbs.

98.75-100.00; 600-700 lbs 90.75-96.50; 700-800 lbs 90.50-94.50; pkg 836 lbs
