JC_LS162 Jefferson City, MO Mon Dec 08, 2008 MO Dept of Ag-USDA Market News Southeast Missouri Show-Me Select Replacement Heifer Sale Fruitland-Fruitland Livestock Auction 12/06/08 Receipts: 95 Year Ago: 134 Coordinated by Show Me Select Board with University Extension, Commercial Agriculture Program, MU College of Veterinary Medicine, Missouri Cattlemen Association and Missouri Dept of Agriculture. Heifers in this sale have met minimum standards for reproductive soundness, pelvic size, frame size, muscle thickness, body condition, and weight. They have undergone a comprehensive health program, and are guaranteed bred. There are 49 A.I. bred heifers. A highlight of the sale there are 20 Tier 2 Show Me Select heifers in the sale. This means that they have met requirements and are out high accuracy sires. Several herds have 6 to 7 generations of stacked pedigrees. Several consignors feed their cattle and get top premium at U.S. Premium Beef on steers mates. All heifers are expected to calve from the first of February thru late April with projected dates given for each lot of heifers. Within the offering, there were 94 percent black or black white face, some Registered Angus and Registered Simmentals, the rest of the offering consisted of Angus, Hereford, Simmental, Charolais crosses. Heifers were graded and sorted into uniform lots according to projected calving dates and body type similarity. A capacity crowd attended the sale and demand was higher than the May sale. Supply consisted of 95 bred heifers from 15 producers, in 54 lots selling to 25 different buyers, average weight 1155 lbs, with a sale average of $1287.00 per head. There were 29 lots of AI bred heifers with an average sale price of $1311.00; 20 lots all natural bred heifers with an average price of $1245.00; 5 lots of mixed AI and natural bred heifers with an average sale price of 1335.00. Replacement Heifers: Few Registered Angus or Simmentals Large 1-2, 2nd-3rd Stage $1300-1475.00; few Fancy Reputation Registered Angus Large 1-2, 2nd-3rd stage 1575.00-1750.00; Large 1-2, 2nd-3rd stage, $1225.00-$1350.00; reputation lots, 1400.00-1450.00 Medium and Large 1-2, 2nd-3rd stage, 1125.00-1275.00; few Medium 1, 2nd-3rd stage, 1075.00-$1125.00; few Medium 2, 2nd-3rd stage, 1000.00-1050.00 per head.
